//This blog is updated in 2022//

To all designers,

we all know this journey is long and hard. In this invited interview series, we would like to share stories of several designers in the archiparti big family and the difficulties they are facing in 2022.

All of them possessed remarkable contribution in the industry and are striking for their belief in their own ways. Tsang Aron Wai Chun is one of those fabulous designers. With his partner Wesley, Aron found Napp Studio, a multi-disciplinary office excels in a range of design fields including architecture, interior, furniture, and product. You can learn more about the inspiring story of Aron below……

Who

Start with a brief introduction first…
I have previously worked in the renowned offices in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Stockholm. My works have been awarded and featured in multiple competitions and publications,e.g. Hong Kong Young Design Talents in 2014.

Designers Journey

How you meet Wesley, the other co-founder of Napp Studio?

Guess what, Wesley and I met when studying for a bachelor degree in the University of Hong Kong! But we subsequently departed and pursued our education and careers in various cities around the world, e.g. Seoul, Boston, New York, Stockholm etc. Followed by a few years of practical experiences in a few internationally renowned offices, we decided to return to Hong Kong and start up Napp Studio earlier in 2016.

Challenges

Similarly, we faced the difficulty that every startup undoubtedly encounters also. To survive, we must gain commissions without an extensive portfolio of built or completed job references, however, it’s hard. Educated as an architect and designer, Wesley and I have to start learning from scratch how to deal with the actual company operations including daily administration, accounting, marketing etc. In a nutshell, we need to get everything done by ourselves even we’re not familiar with that.

Advice for newcomers

Their advice is simple, enjoy your journey. New experiences are enjoyable and very fruitful in a way that we realize all these are designs, design in terms of management structure, cash flow, marketing campaign etc.
